Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed developmental work being done in the country to add pace to infrastructure development..The review brought out the fact that be it railways, air services, road building, transport digitisation or housing — the pace of development in all these sectors during the last 4 years has been far greater than what it was earlier..here’s report.

In line with his hands on approach for the country’s development..Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed progress of key infrastructure sectors of roads, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, rural housing, urban housing, railways, airports and ports ..The meeting was attended by top officials from infrastructure-related ministries, NITI Aayog and PMO and lasted nearly 2 hours..

— NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant’s presentation brought forth how pace of road construction has accelarated

— Average road length constructed per day in FY 17-18 has gone up to 26.93 km

— which was 11.67 km in FY 13-14

— Rural roads have now connected 88% of all eligible habitations under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana

— Over 44,000 villages have been connected in the period from 2014 to 2018

— as compared to about 35,000 in the preceding four year period

— The “MeriSadak” App has been launched in 10 regional languages and has seen 9.76 lakh downloads so far

— The PM called for faster electronic toll collection

— There has also been a significant addition in capacity & rolling stock in the railways sector

— 9,528 km addition in new lines, doubling & gauge conversion was done between 2014-18

— This is 56% higher that what was done between 2010-14

— In case of the aviation sector..passenger traffic has grown by over 62% between 2014-18

— Passenger traffic growth was just 18% in the preceding four years

— 27 airports are also now operational under the UDAN scheme in tier 2 & 3 cities

— As far as ports go..traffic volume in major ports has gone up by 17% in the four years since 2014

— In case of rural housing..over 1 crore houses have been constructed during 2014-18

— Comparitively..25 lakh rural homes were erected during the previous four years

— This has boosted employment in housing sector & related construction industries

— An independent study says average construction completion time has dropped to 114 days in 2017-18 from 314 days in 2015-16

— Stress is also being laid on disaster resilience and low cost housing design typologies

— 54 lakh houses have also been sactioned under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Urban)

— Emphasis is also being laid on new construction technologies in urban housing

Clearly..the extent and speed of development in various infrastructure sectors in the last four years has outpaced what it used be earlier..New India as conceived by the Prime Minister Modi is beckoning & rapid infrastructure development is responding to his call.
