Modi Biopic: SC directs EC to watch full movie

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Election Commission of India to watch the full biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and take a decision regarding the ban on the release of the film by April 19.

A Bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi directed the EC to submit its decision to the court in a sealed cover.

The next hearing in the matter is scheduled on April 22.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the producers of the film, claimed that the poll panel had not watched the film.

The screening of the bipoic was banned by the EC on the grounds that the Model Code of Conduct is in effect and any such film that subserves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in the electronic media.
