PM Modi launches Swachhata Hi Sewa Movement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the fortnight-long Swachhata Hi Sewa Movement in New Delhi through video conferencing.
During the launch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with a cross-section of people which include Jawans of ITBP, school-children, members of milk and agricultural cooperatives, spiritual leaders Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Actor Amitabh Bachchan, industrialist Ratan Tata and Swachhagrahis.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said, cleanliness is a habit that needs to be included in the daily routine. He said, the cleanliness movement that started four years ago has now reached a crucial stage.
He said, no one had imagined more than 4.5 lakh villages, 450 districts,and 20 states and Union Territories will be free from open defecation in 4 years and about ninety million toilets will be built. He said, it is the strength of India and Indians.
The Prime Minister said, every sect of the nation and persons of every age have been associated with the campaign. Prime Minister Modi mentioned that due to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan the cases of diarrhoea have decreased considerably.
The Prime Minister said, disposal of the garbage is very important and waste management has to be made more effective. He said, the Government is making serious efforts towards Waste to Wealth initiative.
Speaking to youngsters of Assam Prime Minister Modi said, they are the ambassadors of social change and the way they have furthered the message of cleanliness is commendable. He said, the youth are at the forefront of a positive change in India.
Speaking to ITBP Jawans posted in Pangong Tso at Leh in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister said, the jawans are always there in the hour of need whether it be on borders or during a calamity. He said, they have made the country by being a part of this movement.
Talking to women members of cooperative societies in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi said, the contribution of India’s Nari Shakti in the Swachh Bharat Mission is immense. He appealed to the cooperative sector to continue their efforts in furthering cleanliness.
