PM Modi shares views on ASEAN-India partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared his vision about ASEAN-India partnership in an op-ed piece titled, ” ASEAN-India: Shared values, common destiny”. The article has been published in the leading dailies from the ASEAN member nations. The Prime Minister wrote that the presence of the ASEAN leadership in Delhi was no ordinary event but a historic milestone in the journey of India-ASEAN partnership.

The Prime Minister highlighted the fact that the basic strength of the relationship stems from the fact that there are no contests and claims that clash with each other. He said that a common vision for the future and belief in equality further binds the nations together./

In the article Prime Minister called the coming of ten leaders from ASEAN nations for the Republic Day celebrations a historic milestone in the remarkable journey of partnership between India and ASEAN. Prime Minister also highlighted the historic ties that define the relationship between India ASEAN Nations.

Though ASEAN-India ties are 25years old, the bonds of special relationship stretch back more than two millennia. The threads connecting two regions are from fields such as religion and culture, art and commerce, language and literature and are now deeply entrenched in the respective societies.

Prime Minister Modi added a paragraph each for the ten ASEAN Nations in his article, dwelling in detail on deepening bilateral relations with the countries as well.

Further Prime Minister Modi once again reached out to the ASEAN nations for increased investment in India. He exuded confidence that ASEAN will be an integral part of New India’s transformation. Prime Minister listed the current times as apt for a deeper partnership between India and ASEAN, adding that both have opportunities and responsibilities to chart a steady course for a stable future.

Prime Minister further said that India has always looked East to see the nurturing sunrise and the light of opportunities and now is no different. PM added that Indo Pacific region will be indispensable to India’s future and common destiny. Prime Minister Modi finally said that the ASEAN-India partnership will play a defining role in both. And, in Delhi, ASEAN and India renewed their pledge for the journey ahead.
