US Delegation to Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute to discuss areas of mutual interest
National Cancer Institute, USA team lead by Dr. Edward Trimble, Director, Center for Global Health (CGH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services had visited Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Insitute on 10th July 2017 to discuss areas of mutual interest includes Cancer collaborations,Science Communication and Public Engagement.
US Delegation Members on Visit are Dr Edward Trimble, Director, Center for Global Health (CGH), NCI;Dr. Preetha Rajaraman, outh Asia Program Director, CGH, NCI;Mr. Douglas Perrin, Consultant for Policy and Programs, CGH, NCI;Ms. Kellie Mullen, Global Media and Presentation Coach;Dr. Vid Nukala, Senior Advisor, Office of Global Affairs (OGA), HHS.
During their visit, the delegation has interacted with Management, Doctors of BIACH&RI. They also visited various facilities and were briefed about activities of BIACH&RI. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Edward Trimble on glocal cancer scenario and way forward. On this occassion members of BIACH&RI has falicitated the members of visiting delegation.
Later interacting with media, Dr Edward Trimble has revealed that they are looking forward to have tieup with institute like Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital in India. While stressing need to undertake joint research projects to understand country specific patterns of cancer and its spread among the population.
Further eloborating on deliberations carried out today Dr TS Rao, Medical Director, BIACH&RI has hoped that joint research will enable to fine tune treatment methods and options to suit a condition that exists in a country. He also stressed upon in understanding local conditions, behavavioural patterns of disease before adopting some thing that is discovered in other nation. While pointing out in incresing number of breast
cancer cases in recent times while decrease in number of cervical cancer due to increased hygene, life style changes need to understood at local levels.
Both of them hoped that such interactions between organisations working with same motives in difference countries will difinetly benifit public at large and hoped that such collaborations will move towards positive outcomes.
