India takes less than 1/5th H1B visas

Nasscom has said that Indian IT companies account for less than a fifth of H-1B visas in America.

Nasscom said Indian IT companies pay higher salaries for workers sent on projects than local wages in the US.

In FY15, only six of the top 20 H-1B recipients were Indian companies.

TCS and Infosys, together received 7,504 approved H-1B visas, only 8.8 per cent of the total approved.

Meanwhile, days after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley raised the issue of restrictions on H-1B visa with his American counterpart Steven Mnuchin, the US has said that it greatly values investments by Indian companies and wants strong economic ties between the two nations.

State Department acting spokesman Mark Toner replying to question on H1B visa’s at the daily news briefing said that the US greatly values Indian companies’ continued investment in the US economy, which also, of course, supports thousands of US jobs”.
