Telangana passes bill to increase quota for backward Muslims communities

Currently, reservations for Muslims is at 4%, while for Scheduled Tribes, it is at 6%.
Telangana Legislative Assembly and the Council passed the State New Reservations Bill-2017 unanimously.
The opposition except BJP extended support to increase the quota for backward Muslim communities who are in Backward Classes-E category and also Scheduled Tribes in education and employment in the state.
The Bill proposed to increase the BC-E quota to 12 % from the present 4% where as it proposed increase quota for STs to 10% from the current 6%.
