EC refutes Kejriwal’s charges

Election Commission strongly refutes Aam Admi Party charges about EVMs, asserts no EVMs used in the recently held assembly Election in UP deployed in by-elections in MP.

Election commission has rejected AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal allegation that Electronic Voting Machines for the bye-polls in the Madhya Pradesh were taken out and shifted from the Uttar Pradesh where polls were recently conducted.

In a statement, the Commission termed the allegations as baseless and made without verifying facts.

The poll panel said, in the on-going bye-polls in Madhya Pradesh only Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail or VVPAT machines which were kept in reserve and not used during the actual poll, have been re-deployed.

It also maintained that in any election a certain percentage of EVMs and VVPAT machines are kept in reserve so that EVMs and VVPAT machines deployed on the poll day can be replaced, if required.
