MCC: SC sets May 6 deadline for Election Commission

Supreme Court sets May 6 as the deadline for Election Commission to decide on poll code violation charges against PM Modi and Amit Shah; EC tells Court 2 out of 11 complaints have already been disposed off; EC gives clean chit to PM Narendra Modi for remark at Barmer.

The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission on Thursday to decide by May 6, nine complaints of the Congress party alleging violations of MCC by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.

EC told a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi that it has already decided two out of the 11 complaints which were filed by the Congress party against Modi and Shah for alleged violation of the MCC.

Meanwhile, the EC did not find anything objectionable in PM Modi’s Barmer speech, saying he did not violate the model code of conduct.
