TS Shepherds find it difficult to rear and buy the good breeds though given a boost by state government
With the Telangana government sheep and goat distribution scheme, the shepherds of the Nalgonda district expressed their happiness. CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao while speaking in the distribution scheme in Kondapak said that the consumption rate of goats and sheep is high in the state and with this scheme the Yadav community will be the beneficiary by an estimate earning of 25K cr in the next three years. Everyday several districts in the state along with the capital are importing 650 lorries of sheep and goats. CM has said that this should be reversed and TS state should become the producers. TS has also started six 109 medical van services for the treatment of goats and sheep which will consist of a veterinary doctor, a retired doctor, a compounder along with the required medicines.
On other hand, with the monsoon approaching soon, the shepherds fear that the goats and sheep might fall sick from Blue tongue, Peste-despetits, Ruminants and sheep pox which will result in the death of at least 20% of it. But the animal husbandry joint director Ramesh said that there is no case of sheep or goats picking up the infection till now and are expecting a zero percent infection this year. But the shepherds who visited the Anantapur district along with the veterinary officials found it difficult to buy good breed sheep for the expected cost of 5k. As buying older sheep will be a loss to the shepherds, they appealed to district collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil regarding this will didn’t fetch up a positive response as expected.
