Sustainable Development Growth (SDG) initiatives of Andhra Pradesh get UN appreciation

High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on sustainable development-2017 under the United Nations Economic and Social Council is being held in New York from July 10 to July 19. 44 countries are participating in it to present their views. The theme for this discussion is “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world”. Andhra Pradesh is the only state that is taking part in this discussion. It has been represented by Mr. Alen John Samuel of Vision Management Unit of the Planning Department. He spoke about the AP’s sustainable development goals which are to be achieved by 2019.

The quick take-aways from this speech were Assurances, Awareness and E-governance and said that AP has achieved in providing electricity, social protection schemes, and various people centric schemes for a sustainable growth. He said that the target for 2019 is to provide all the basic facilities in the state along with some modern day necessities like high speed internet in villages, improving the literacy, providing healthy affordable food. The presentation also included some of the economic development initiatives like Coastal economic and Employment zones, industrial corridors, Economic cities and small and large retail outlets development etc. The panelists for the side event organised by India were Syed Akbaruddin, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Dr. Arvind Panagriya, Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog,Dr. T.C.A. Anand, Chief Statistician of GOI, Hardeep Singh Puri, Ambassador and Prof.Jagdish Bhagwathi. The E-governance initiatives of AP highlighted by Dr. Panagariya received immense appreciation in this side event. The state received several requests for collaborations and partnerships.

Welfare schemes should reach people on time:  Andhra CS Dinesh Kumar

Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar has given orders to the various Department Chiefs to provide the Government schemes to people on time. He spoke to them regarding the functioning of Pradhan mantri awaz Yojana schme for building houses, Chandra bheema scheme. He also spoke to them regarding the Chintalpudi lift irrigation project and project in Velugonda. Members from SLSMC were asked about the houses being constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The SLSMC members informed CS that in 2015-16, permissions for construction of 73,041 houses was given and in 2017-18, construction of 5,56,103 houses is to be done by the AP government. They said that out of the given figure, 2, 25,245 houses are given permission and the rest 2, 57,500 will get the permission in the following month. CS said that there shouldn’t be any negligence in providing funds for the selected candidates. Housing Secretary Karikal Valvan, EFST Principal Secretary Anantha Ramu, Finance Secretary Ravi Chandra, Housing Ex-officio Secretary Kantilal Dande and other officials from housing board were present at the meeting.

Mobile Hospital service being rendered in East Andhra

The eastern part of Andhra Pradesh which includes districts like Vijayanagaram, Vizag, and East Godhavari will soon have the mobile hospital services which are intended to provide service to the tribalsin those areas. The mobile hospital vehicles are equipped with medical equipments which can conduct 100 types of medical tests. Minister Sujay Krishna ranga rao said that these mobile hospitals will provide service in the tourism and mining areas present in these districts.
