State of Telangana held its first state level advisory board meeting

Under the leadership of Municipal Administration Secretary Navin Mittal, Telangana state has held its first state level advisory meeting in Secretariat to discuss about the state policy to solid waste management and provision of solid waste management rules. Navin Mittal felt that there is a need an utmost need for the solid waste management in the urban areas with the increasing population in the city and its surroundings.

He said that the policy being formulated should emphasise on waste reduction, reuse, recycling, recovery and optimum utilization of various components of solid waste. He has advised the officials to give the job of framing these rules to the Administrative staff college of India (ASCI). The officials have informed Navin Mittal that 56 urban local bodies are working for processing the limited quantities of the waste into compost and dry resource collection mechanism. They have also informed him that lack of manpower, expertise, mechanism and lack of suitable land for setting up a compost plant are the reasons for its delay. The advisors of the board have informed that to ensure a proper collection of waste, the waste pickers should be given a registration.
