PM launches BHIM Aadhaar interface for making payments
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a fresh impetus to Digital India and a Less Cash Economy on Friday with the launch of BHIM Aadhaar service which enabled every Indian citizen to pay digitally just with their thumb impression.
He also unveiled Referral Bonus and Cash Back schemes to further incentivise digital transactions. He presented awards to Mega Draw winners of Lucky Grahak Yojana & Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojna and announced the coming to birth of 75 Cashless Townships across India in the 100 days of Digi Dhan Yojana.
All this came on a momentous occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar. PM Modi said a digital economy can go a long way in achieving an India of Dr. Ambedkar’s dreams, an India for all citizens.
The nation paid tributes to the architect of Indian Constitution Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 126th birth anniversary on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Nagpur to pay his respects to Dr. Ambedkar. He offered floral tributes to the icon at Deekshabhoomi and prayed for a few minutes.
It was here that Dr. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism in 1956 with a large number of followers. PM Modi hailed Dr. Ambedkar for not showing any trace of bitterness despite facing several hardships.
On the occasion, PM Modi also released a commemorative postal stamp on Deekshabhoomi of Dr. Ambedkar and exhorted Indians to fulfil the icon’s dream of a strong, prosperous and inclusive India.
Positioning the DigiDhan movement as a Safai Abhiyaan, PM said it is aimed to free the nation from the menace of corruption & black money. He said that the day is not far when Digidhan becomes Nijidhan or personal wealth of the poor.
On BHIM mobile app for digital transactions, PM Modi said that in the coming days, it would emerge as a driver of the economy. He assured that virtual paperless banking would become a reality soon. He drew attention to the fact that the 100 day 100 city Digidhan Mission that was launched on Christmas and concluded on Good Friday and Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.
Prime Minister Modi also launched BHIM Aadhaar service, the merchant interface of the BHIM App, that will enable every single Indian citizen to pay just with their THUMB impression even in the absence of internet, wallet, or mobile and said that the thumb impression that was once a sign of illiteracy is now a sign of economic empowerment of the poor.
To further incentivise digital transactions, PM also launched two new schemes under the BHIM app for referral bonus to individual users and cash-back for merchants.
Seeking to rope in youngsters to promote cashless transactions, PM Modi said for every person they introduce to the BHIM app, they will get a cash back of 10 rupees from 14th April to 14th October.
On the occasion, PM Modi also awarded the Mega Draw Winners of Lucky Grahak and Digi Dhan Vyapar schemes aimed at popularising Digital Payments. 91,000 merchants won 59 crore rupees in rewards, and 15 lakh 78,000 consumers won rewards worth 197 crore rupees.
Appealing to citizens to stand up to corruption and help build a New India by 2022, PM Modi said that Dr. Ambedkar wanted to build an India for all citizens and BHIM Aadhaar is the strongest foundation of a New Economy in a New India.
