Prime Minister arrived at the United Nations headquarters in New York to attend the UN’s climate action summit. He is among the over 60 leaders who are participating in the Summit.

Many view the Summit as an emergency Summit to course correct global climate actions in keeping with the Paris Agreement. India has committed to to reduce emission intensity of its GDP by 33-35% from 2005 levels by 2030 as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi made a call to more aggressive action. He said a comprehensive approach including education, values, lifestyle and philosophy of development needs to be adopted. PM emphatically stated that need not greed is and has been India’s guiding principle.

Prime Minister announced that India will take the leadership launching Coalition of Disaster Resilient Infrastructure in partnership with Sweden. This is the second global initiative after the International Solar Alliance where India is taking the lead.
