PM: Informed citizens strongest pillar of democracy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that empowered citizens are one of the strongest pillars of democracy. Over the last 3.5 years, the Modi govt has created the right environment that nurtures informed and empowered individuals.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new building of Central Information Commission The PM said that a multidimensional approach to information exchange and dissemination is a must. He said Ask, Listen, Interact, Act and Inform are the five pillars of today’s Information Highway./
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the new premises of the Central Information Commission in Delhi. A body that functioned out of several buildings for the past 12 years of its existence.finally coming under one roof. Stressing on the role of the CIC in ensuring transparency, Prime Minister urged citizens to exercise not just their right to information but also to live by the act right principle.
Prime Minister also launched a mobile App developed by the CIC. Technology plays a huge role in ensuring good governance and this is another step in that direction. It allows easy access to information and will also ensure transparency and fast-tracking in disposing Grievances.
Stressing that information dissemination can’t be a one-way channel, Prime Minister said that his govt follows a multidimensional approach of creating information highways to empower citizens. He spelt out the 5 pillars of this approach Ask, Listen, Interact, Act, and Inform.
The govt’s citizen engagement platform MyGov is the world’s second-largest such platform. It is an example of the first pillar. A proactive Modi govt is prompt in responding to issues raised online and on social media. The Centralized Public Grievance Redress And Monitoring System is an example of the how this approach has been institutionalised. The responsiveness of the government was clearly visible during the implementation of GST. Another first is providing real-time information about Govt schemes via a DashBoard.an example of the fifth pillar spelt out by the Prime Minister.
The new building is a state-of-the-art green building constructed by National Building Construction Corporation ahead of its completion date. It houses all the hearing rooms of the Central Information Commission, with modern IT and video conferencing systems. The building has been given a 4-star rating for being a Green building. And the inauguration of this building is another step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
