Old Rs 500 notes to end from midnight today

New Delhi: Freedoms on use of old Rs.500 currency notes will end December 15 midnight. The Government will not spread the deadline for activities such as paying school fees utility bills and fees in Central or State Government colleges.

Shaktikanta Das, economic affairs secretary tweeted that Exemptions for use of old Rs 500 notes will end on 15 Dec midnight. Das also said that people can continue depositing the old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes at bank branches.

The government had already reserved the facility to use old Rs 500 notes at petrol pumps from the midnight of December 2.
