Modi lays foundation stone of new Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of Vanijya Bhawan at Delhi’s Akbar road. Once ready, the new building will house the Department of Commerce.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the construction of Vanijya Bhawan will be completed before December 2019. He added that earlier, construction pace was tardy, but now construction is completed in a pre-determined time frame and full accountability is fixed. PM Modi also said that speedy completion of various works shows the government’s commitment.
The Prime Minister asserted that the current government does not believe in misleading the country. He urged the people to start working from “Silos to Solutions”. He also said that technology has eased ways of doing business today, and this is going to grow in the years to come.
The Prime Minister also said that GST has brought positive changes in the economy & in the way financial activities were carried out earlier.
Earlier, PM Modi planted a sapling on the occasion. New Vanijya Bhawan will be a completely paperless office with state of the art facilities such as smart access control, video conferencing and completely networked systems. He also viewed the 3D model and virtual walkthrough of Vanjiya Bhawan.
The new building will be a symbol of not only India’s growing economic might but also the adoption and use of technology in governance.
The Department of Commerce is currently housed in Udyog Bhawan which also houses a large number of other Government of India departments leading to constraint of space.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu said that this is not only the foundation stone of the new building but also a step towards new India. Minister of State for Commerce C R Chaudhary also spoke on the event. He said that this building will help in saving lot of money spent on rent.
