Law Commission continues consultations with political parties
Law Commission continued its consultations for the second day on Sunday with political parties on the feasibility of holding simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
Sunday saw RLD, SP, TDP, DMK and Forward Bloc putting forward their views before the Law Commission. SP came out in favour of the concept with conditions, while DMK and Forward Bloc opposed the idea.
The Law Commission had met representatives from Trinamool Congress, Goa Forward Party, CPI, AIUDF, Shiromani Akali Dal and AIADMK on saturday.
While on 10th July, YSRCP and BJD will meet the Commission. The draft concept has been welcomed by ruling BJP as well as Shiromani Akali Dal and JDU
According to experts, there are many benefits of holding simultaneous polls which includes:-
– political stability and momentum to development
– saving poll expenditure and other resources
– Administrative convenience
-Less impact on normal life
– Increasing participation of common people in the elections
