GST set to be rolled out on July 1

With a big launch on the midnight of June 30, Parliament’s historic Central Hall will host an hour long function on the nation’s biggest tax reform, GST.
Goods and Services Tax is all set to be rolled out from July 1.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. former prime ministers Manmohan Singh and HD Deve Gowda, apart from Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will attend the function.

Addressing at the APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University in Lucknow, PM Narendra Modi said after successful implementation of GST, India will set an example for the world. Roll out of GST from July 1 will be historic. He also thanked the parties for building consensus on GST.

Briefing media, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, tax reform might face short-term challenges but in the long run it will check evasion. He also said that SGST has been approved by all states barring J&K and Kerala and if they fail to pass before July 1, it will be their loss.
