Asia’s First portable Solar Micro Cold room “Ecofrost” to be launched tomorrow

Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and allied departments,Pocharam Srinivas Reddy,will inaugurate “Ecofrost”- solar based storage system with a technology that can change the post-harvest technology management in Centre of Excellence for Vegetables and flowers in Jeedimetla  tomorrow at 9.00 AM.

The programme continues with the training of urban public who are interested in urban farming, terrace gardening. The Hon’ble Minister will also interact with the polyhouse farmers and will inspect the development works done in the center. Presently exotic crops like strawberry, gerbera and carnation flowers, cucumber,tomatoes and seedless brinjal are cultivated. The center has also started recently cultivatingorchids based on tissue culture.

The nearby district farmers have started lifting of vegetableseedlings based on 25 paise for each seedling. The hi-tech nursery and climate controlledgreenhouse is fetching about 6lakh qualitative seedlings at a stretch. The COE has become a hub for presentation of new and advanced cultivation methods for horticulture crops. The open
space in the center is also utilized for cultivation of loose flowers like scented roses. The produce of the center is linked up with supermarket and also sold in open market to generate revenue for self sustainability.
