Arun Jaitley questions promises in Congress manifesto

Senior BJP leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday questioned promises in Congress manifesto related to media.

In his Facebook post, Jaitley said, the media chapter contains suggestions, each one of which will regulate and restrict free journalism and otherwise multiplicity of Indian media, which is anachronic.

He said, such promises are not in tune with the times. He said, the manifesto also promises a law to maintain the freedom of Internet and not arbitrarily shut it down. He added this power is generally exercised only when operations against terrorism and insurgency are in progress.
