Agricultural Education Day Celebrated at ICAR-NAARM
“Agriculture and allied sectors provide us not only food but also nutrition, and it involves nutritional security, livelihood security and environmental security. The national economy is dependent on agriculture and agriculture has to be made climate resilent,” said Dr T. Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Government of India, and Director-General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, while addressing the participants as the Chief Guest during the ‘Agricultural Education Day’ at the ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad on 3 Dec 2016.
The ICAR had decided to celebrate the birthday of Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India as ‘Agricultural Education Day’ on 3 Dec every year, with the objective of creating awareness among school and college students to the importance of agriculture and its contribution to the economy. More than 300 students from the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Hyderabad, Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Prof Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad, and MANAGE, Hyderabad participated in various competitive events. This included quiz, elocution and painting competitions.
