ABU International Dance Festival will begin from 13th Jan In Hyderabad

Naveen Mittal commissioner I&PR chaired a meeting of organizing committee of international Dance festival at the office of the commissioner I&PR at FDC complex AC gaurds in Hyderabad today. The committee discussed the arrangements and facilities provided by government of Telangana for hosting the Asian Broadcasting Union’s (Abu) International Dance Festival 2017 at shilpakala vedika Madhapur Hyderabad. Dance teams from several countries which includes Mongolia, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Uzbekistan and India will participate and shows their performance. This international Dance Festival is jointly organized by Prasara Bharathi and government of Telangana. Director of Tourism and Culture , Doordarshan, Special officer (shilpakala vedika) Shri Kishan Rao and Additional Director General of Press Information Bureau, Hyderabad Dr P J Sudhakar etc have participated in the organizing committee meeting.
The ABU, (Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union) is a non-profit, non-government, professional association of broadcasters in the Asia Pacific region. It reaches out to half of the population of the world. Through its various showcases, competitions and Festivals, it has launched several international performance careers. Its ABU Song Festival has been particularly successful. ABU now looks at starting similar projects for Dance. Prasara Bharati represented by All India Radio and Doordarshan is its member and it is a matter of pride for us that Doordarshan has been identified as the Nodal Agency to put this International Dance Festival into effect.

This ABU International Dance Festival, scheduled to be held from 13th January 2017 to 16th January 2017 in Hyderabad, It will be a grand international artistic event that will bring the best from this Asia Pacific region on to a single platform. All participating countries will run independent selection processes to send up a team for the ABU Dance festival.

In order to select the finalists who will represent India, Doordarshan has planned a multi level and multi-city dance selection and showcase that will feature dance compositions in two genres- traditional and contemporary- the categories that have been identified in the guidelines for the ABU international dance festival in its inaugural year. Those shortlisted after the initial submission will be part of Doordarshan’s Dance Show that will be telecast nationally. From this short listing will emerge the India team that would test itself against the best, in an international selection process. If selected by the international jury, Team India would participate in the ‘SHOWCASE’ of the ABU TV Dance festival which is planned as a grand event scheduled to be held at Hyderabad. This show will be telecast internationally on channels of ABU member countries and can be seen by the largest Asian audience.
